Description
This is a near mint example of a very rare bass , The Yamaha BEX-BS. BS stands for Billy Sheehan.
Made in 2002 in very small numbers. Not sure exactly how few were made, but try to find another for sale, or another that was sold.
Leo Knapp was the Yamaha employee responsible for working with Mr Sheehan to get this bass “right” . You see, Billy Sheehan was a big fan of 1960’s bassist for the Yardbirds, Paul Samwell=Smith. Mr. Smith played an Epiphone Rivoli bass. That was a single pickup passive bass of similar construction. The BEX=BS adds a second magnetic pickup and a 2 band active preamp.
- Alder nulled body with a Sycamore top.
- 34″ scale single piece bolt-on Maple neck with 21 frets.
- Rosewood fingerboard with Abalone position markers.
- Two humbucker pickups
- Active /passive operation
- OHSC
This bass produce a very rich passive tone made even more versatile when the preamps engaged. I really like the fact that there are 2 volumes ( rather than the typical volume and blend ). There are many useful tones to be discovered here.
This bass is little played and in near mint condition.
A great bass, a rare bass. and in this condition = a real find.
