The very first fretless 5 from the minds and hands of Tom Ribbecke and Bobby Vega.  This bass was initially scheduled to be ready over a year ago , but to their credit, Tom and Bobby did not want to offer this bass till it was right. You and I do benefit from this care and development. They got it right.

This is an all solid wood bass, Flame Maple sides and back with a bursted Spruce top. The 34″ scale neck in primarily Birdseye Maple with Wenge center and stringers. The fretboard is Ebony, as are the tailpiece, bridge and pickguard. Note the semi fretlines – very effective as an intonation tool. The floating magnetic pickup is by Kent Armstrong. Hidden beneath the pickguard are two rotary knobs – volume and tone.

This bass plays without effort – very dynamic acoustically. Plenty of nuance to be uncovered here. I promise myself that I will have one of these for my use. How often does a bass inspire new ideas ?
