I am now on an extended 4 string bass kick, after rarely touching one for the previous 30 years. It feels liberating and allows for some risk taking which can lead to surprising results.
These 2 basses have my attention now , both from luthiers who are based in France. The large acoustic bass with the F holes is the Gabriella model by Paul Lairat. The smaller bass the Triton model is by Sebastien Aquilina. The Triton has a thin chambered Mahogany body , making it the closer of the 2 to a solid body bass. This bass is passive and woody.
The Gabriella is a much more acoustic instrument , with magnetic and piezo pickups and a separate output for each. The tones possible from this arrangement are breathtaking.
