About the Builder
Vector Instruments is owned and operated by Nicholas M. Tipney, a Canadian luthier with over 17 years experience in elelctro-acoustic design. While Luthiers Access Group features electric uprights by Mr. Tipney, he also makes very fine electric violins, violas, and cellos.

From Vector's studio , choice Red Spruce, higjly figures Curly Maple, and other fine woods are transformed into custom instruments of the highest order. The combination of lightweight, hollow bodies and the Barbera Bridge System produces instruments that are unmatched in tone, beauty and playability ; yet, these instruments are unaffected by feedback and the rigors of the road .

The bodies and neck are hand-crafted of select Curly or Bird's-eye Maple , and available in a wide array of finishes, from traditional natural and violin hues to sunbursts and solid colors. The fingerboard is choice Ebony, with a bar of carbon-graphite imbedded underneath for enhanced tonal balance and increased sustain and stability.

The Barbera Multi-transducer Bridge is an extremely accurate Upright Bass pickup. It provides clarity and definition while retaining the overall warmth and subtlety of the sound of an acoustic bass . The onboard preamp of is the Fishman ABGP, chosen for its unquestioned reputation as a reliable and transparent impedance matching system.

Noted bassist Bob McCaskey, on the Barbera Bridge System... " This unit is the best transducer on the market. It reproduces both pizzicato and arco playing in a simply amazing fashion, with startling volume available and great sonic reproduction in all playing modes. It needs no improvement. My favorite bass will never part with the Barbera Transducer; it's by far the best for volume, balance, and true acoustic bass sound enhancement.

Every Vector bass is a custom instrument built to players needs. Neck dimensions and string length are up to each player. The bass can be played on a stationary stand, or with an end pin.

The small size and low weight are a boon to the touring bassist and the streamlined body offers unrestricted access to all playing positions while the heavy-duty ball joint stand allows positioning of the bass at any height and angle. Removable upper bouts are available to create the feel of a traditional upright.
