Description
Here we have a rare bass from luthier Andy Schack (Germany).
Mr. Shack builds a small number of basses, but his main business is as a supplier of fine woods to builders in Europe and beyond. (It is my undrestanding that he is no longer building basses) .
This neck-through 5 has a top that I cannot name – any help out there? Madrone Burl, perhaps? We can see clearly that the Flame Maple in the neck and body is very highly figured.
The 9 piece neck is Maple with Bubinga runners and binding, the fretboard is Macassar Ebony. The scale is 36″, but I did not know this till I actually measured it – it plays effortlessly, and the B is gigantic.
The pickups are by Basstech, and the preamp is Shack’s proprietary 3 band: each band is semi-parametric with cut/boost and sweep. Sweet !!
This bass is in very nice shape, showing only very minor finish checking upon close inspection.
This bass originally listed for over$6K here in the States.
